As a part of UAL Climate Emergency Network's Earth Day: Appetite for Justice, Queer Botany will be hosting a poetry reading during the Earth Night event at Central Saint Martin's Platform Theatre Bar. Featured poets are Carlos Mauricio Rojas and Cult Murphy. Earth Night is from 6pm–10pm and the poetry reading starts at 7pm.
Carlos Mauricio Rojas (they/them) is a poet and spoken word performer and a horticulture student at the Walworth Garden Centre. They are a recipient of the Invisible Presence programme for british and latinx writers and poets and a mentee of the Poetry London Mentoring Scheme 2020. Their work has been published online with Clavmag and the 87press and in print with Writerz & Scribez, Gather-in anthology. Carlos has performed at the Roundhouse, The Albany theatre, and online with Raze Collective queer poets, and the 87press Renegade Readings. Carlos's poetry moves through multiple griefs from suicides in the queer and trans community, the conflict in Colombia, and the destruction of the wild due to global warming, weaving multicultural identity, political observation, and horticulture.
Cult Murphy (he/him) is an artist & performer from Essex. Cult’s work explores the monstrosities of heartbreak, the dangers of obsession, the balms found in magical thinking & intuitive herbal practise, finding humour & hope in the face of anticipated ecological collapse & our innate ability to communicate with, utilise & support our local natural environments. Cult Murphy’s debut writing collection “The Violet Pillar” is set for release Sat 30th April 2022.
As Earth Day comes to an end, join us in the CSM Platform Bar for an eco-party with purpose celebrating ecology and community, while fundraising for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. Enjoy performances, activities, special vegan cocktails, DJ sets, immersive sounds and sights. Come and inhabit a wild jungle of creativity, nature and joy.
